PRACTICE
Combining his
background in law, technology and business, together with his experience
as an arbitrator and mediator of information technology and intellectual
property disputes, since 1982 Mr. Wernick’s practice has focused on
information technology law and
intellectual property law, with an emphasis on the legal and business
needs of buyers and sellers involved with computers and information
technology. His transactional experience includes computer system acquisitions; mergers
and acquisitions due diligence for information technology, copyright,
trademark and licensing matters; data privacy; e-commerce; content
acquisition; licensing; and outsourcing. He provides practical legal
advice and strategic counseling to clients in connection with significant
transactional and dispute resolution matters. Furthermore, Mr. Wernick has
experience advising and counseling clients in business law and general
corporate law matters. In
addition to his transactional work, he has represented clients in the
United States District Courts, United States Court of Appeals, and the
United States Supreme Court.

Mr. Wernick's preventive
services include advising on the legal aspects of computer system
acquisitions, cloud computing, outsourcing, electronic commerce and Internet legal issues,
licensing, obtaining and
protecting proprietary rights including copyright registrations and

intellectual property; privacy compliance issues, and
intellectual property due diligence in mergers and acquisitions; data

ACTIVITIES
Mr.
Wernick serves in leadership roles in several national and international
organizations involved with computer law and e-commerce issues.
He currently serves on the
Alumni Board for the
Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University, is the
Chairman of the Advisory Council for the Guide To Computer Law
published by Wolters Kluwer Publishing, and is a
Fellow at the Ponemon
Institute. He is a writer and frequent contributor to a number of
legal and business publications, including writing an Info Tech Law column for
the Chicago Lawyer magazine, and articles for the National Law
Journal. He is also a frequent lecturer, having delivered more than 100
public presentations at local, regional, national and international
business, technical and legal conferences, including presentations to
delegations of business representatives from China. Mr. Wernick
currently serves on the advisory boards of several legal publications, and
is the Newsletter Director for the Cyberspace Law Committee of the
Business Section of the American Bar Association. While at law
school, he won the law school's competition for Best Written Motion and
received an award for his legal writing ability, was appointed
research assistant to the Dean of the law school, and was a member of the
Moot Court (Tax) team. In addition to his law degree, Mr. Wernick
has a
B.S. in Accounting and a
technical background in computer programming (including having worked as a
university research assistant doing computer programming and consulting,
as a computer system operator, and as a computer programmer).
